IGV Privacy Policy

  • We respect the privacy of all IGV users, and we do not collect any user information with the exception of the date, time, and IP address to which the IGV application is loaded.
  • Note that IGV supports displaying data tracks that can embed links to external websites (not part of IGV). For example, a feature track may provide a link to an external gene information source, such as https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene. Once you click on such a link, you are subject to the privacy policy of that website.
  • IGV's use of user's data is limited to the creation of graphical displays ("tracks") viewed within the IGV application. Data is not transferred to other applications, including IGV servers, and remains within the IGV client application.
  • Google user data can be loaded from Google Drive or Google Cloud Storage. Data files stored in Google Drive can be selected from the Genomes or Tracks menu from either the "Google Drive..." menu item, or by entering a url from the "URL..." menu item. Data files stored in Google Cloud Storage can be selected by entering the "gs://" url from the "URL..." menu item. IGV will then download the file contents to create the graphical representation of the data which is presented as "tracks". Data, including Google user data, is not stored or shared by IGV. IGV's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
